Viking Longhouse(!)
- £127/Per Night
Description
This turf-covered cabin is an enchanting mix of a Viking longhouse and a hobbit hideaway, nestled in an orchard between mountains and the sea on a small permaculture farm. Guests can enjoy camping fire cooking and starlit skies while having access to modern amenities such as a comfy bed, a kitchen, hot water, a shower, a compost toilet, and a wood-burning stove. The sustainable farm features lakes, woodlands, and animals, encouraging exploration and interaction.
The Longhouse is an inviting oak-crafted underground cabin, well-insulated and situated at the orchard’s base, 150 metres from the main farm buildings and a ‘nearly wild’ campsite. It includes mains electricity, warm water, a wood burner, a gas stove, and necessary kitchenware. The cabin also has its own hot shower and compost toilet. Bedding for the double bed and two single beds is provided, with extra futon mattresses available (guests need to bring additional bedding).
The working farm specialises in small-scale regenerative farming and is internationally recognised for its permaculture practices. Guests can explore fairy tale-like meadows, woodlands, small lakes with a boat, and scenic streams. Facilities include woodland hammocks, friendly lambs, fresh eggs, home-produced meats, breathtaking views of the sea and mountains, and garden-fresh salad and vegetables. Additional amenities like a compost toilet with incredible views, a converted cow shed with various conveniences, and a wash area are available.
Dogs are allowed with a £10 cleaning fee, but must be well-controlled. Guests have the freedom to explore the entire farm, though they should avoid the cows and bee hives. The farm hosts seasonal activities such as haymaking and gardening. Towels are not automatically provided but can be requested.
