Tabernacle Sherpherds hut

About this stay

The Tabernacle is a shepherd's hut set among oak trees, wildflowers, and ferns in North Cornwall, five minutes from the coastline. A stained glass window above the double bed and a pot belly stove give the interior a chapel-like quality that the name deliberately evokes. The hut runs on 12v solar with USB charging, and a wood-fired hot tub sits outside under the tree canopy.

Access is via a bumpy farm track unsuitable for low-slung cars, and phone signal inside the hut is variable to non-existent. The kitchen has a gas hob and grill, a Belfast sink, and a small fridge. A waterfall shower and compost toilet are in the adjoining shower room. At 294 reviews and 4.94, it has proven popular. The deliberate disconnection and the five minute proximity to the coast make for an effective combination.

What we love

The stained glass window above the bed gives the Tabernacle a quality of light that no other shepherd's hut in Cornwall can match. That, and a wood-fired hot tub under the oaks.
