Pennine Wildflower
- £61/Per Night
Description
Nestled in the wild Pennines, this private shepherd hut offers a rustic, outdoor experience with stunning moorland views. Situated on a working farm, guests can expect mud year-round and dust in summer, emphasising this is not a glamping site. The insulated hut features a comfortable double bed (bring your own duvet and sheets), basic cooking amenities including a microwave, kettle, and barbecue, along with necessary utensils and a cool box. Mains water is accessible just outside the hut. The separate compost loo hut contains a basin, towel, and water jug for handwashing, although there is no shower. A traditional chamber pot is provided for night use.
Electric lighting, including a table lamp and heater, is available inside the hut, but open flames are prohibited indoors due to fire safety regulations. For outdoor lighting, a storm lantern is provided. Guests can enjoy folding chairs and a BBQ/fire pit outside the hut. The hut’s surroundings are fenced to protect against larger livestock, which create mud—guests are advised not to touch the electric fence.
Visitors can explore the farm, swim in the lake, use the canoe, or paddle in the brook. An extensive network of public footpaths offers walking opportunities, but weather-appropriate gear and wellies are essential. During spring and summer, the fields bloom with wildflowers, attracting diverse birdlife and other wildlife, including deer and hares. The area also boasts historical remnants of past quarrying and nearby attractions like the Pennine Bridleway and national trails.
The farm enforces strict booking criteria, and guests must meet specific requirements, including not bringing children or dogs. Please communicate any mobility needs before booking. Parking is available 100 metres downhill from the hut. This accommodation caters to adventurous spirits seeking basic yet charming lodging amidst nature’s splendour.
What We Love:
We love the secluded, rustic charm and breathtaking views, the chance to explore nature, the farm’s untamed beauty, and the pure simplicity of shepherd hut living.
